Salina of Comacchio

The salina is the heart of the Valli of Comacchio.
It extends for about 550 hectares to the north-east of the main nucleus of the valle, which retains a building made in the Napoleonic era bearing witness to the role played by Comacchio in the production of salt, with varying fortunes, since ancient times.

The variety and calm of this environment make the “salina” a nesting site for many species, such as the pink flamingo which has chosen this place as the seat of a large colony, one of the few in Europe, together with the Sacca di Scardovari.
